As part of the Government plans to kick start the economy and reduce emissions, we received some more welcome news for homeowners and landlords with the announcement of The Green Home Grant.

Rishi Sunak has announced a £3bn green investment package the Government says will help support about 140,000 green jobs, upgrade buildings and reduce emissions.

As part of this package homeowners and landlords in England will be able to apply for vouchers to pay for green improvements such as loft, wall and floor insulation.

Not only will this move help reduce emissions, it will also create extra work for trades people to help the economy recover.

The Chancellor said: "From September, homeowners and landlords will be able to apply for vouchers to make their homes more energy efficient and create local jobs.”
"The grants will cover at least two thirds of the cost, up to £5,000 per household.”
"And for low income households, we’ll go even further with vouchers covering the full cost - up to £10,000." Rishi Sunak also said the scheme could save homeowners/tenants £300 a year on their energy bills.

Homeowners and landlords will be able to access a website from September with various options for making their home more energy efficient. There will also be a list of accredited suppliers on the website, which the government says will create work for tradesmen.
The Government will cover at least two thirds of the cost that homeowners in England spend on green upgrades. This means a householder would pay £1,320 of the £4,000 bill for cavity wall and floor insulation for a semi-detached or end-terrace house, while the Government would pay the rest of the bill costing them £2,680.

What do Kingshills think? Our lettings director James Charlton has said the following-

“This is very welcome news to help the property sector and great news for a greener environment. It will also be great for tenants, as in my experience, tenants are more likely than homeowners to live in an inefficient home. I would urge all homeowners and landlords to take advantage of this scheme whilst it’s available”

The Green Homes Grant will launch in September, with online applications for recommended energy efficiency measures, and details of accredited local suppliers. If you have any questions about this scheme, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
